Neonatology

Colossal Care for Tiny Tots

Neonatology is the care of sick or premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by specially trained physicians called neonatologists. A trip to the NICU isn’t usually on an expecting family’s birth plan, but if your newborn is in need of intensive care, our NICUs are indeed exactly where you want to be.

The North Memorial Health Advantage

  • Our partnership with Minnesota Neonatal Physicians allows for around-the-clock expert care at both North Memorial Health Hospital and Maple Grove Hospital.
  • These eight board-certified neonatologists—doctors who have specialized training in critical care for premature or ill babies—have tirelessly cared for thousands of babies and families over decades with genuine devotion.
  • Our neonatologists share this vast expertise with you to help you make the best decisions for your family. They are available 24 hours a day to attend high-risk deliveries, manage every need of their tiny patients, and meet with families expecting an infant who may need NICU care.
  • Our neonatologists encourage you to stay in the hospital with your infant as much as you can to participate in daily care, and we do our best to make the NICU feel like home. It’s your parenting that will matter most in the long-term success of your child, especially when your NICU days are over.
  • Beyond outstanding inpatient care, Minnesota Neonatal Physicians offers a Neonatal Follow-Up Program for children needing extra developmental assessment. While many babies who booked a NICU stay go on to live healthy, normal lives, some may benefit from extra observation of their development.
