North Memorial Health Opens Eveleth-Virginia Air Care Base

08/14/2017

(Robbinsdale, MN – August 14, 2017) – North Memorial Health announced today the opening of its newest air care base located at the Eveleth-Virginia airport with service beginning August 16. North Memorial Health Air Care provides air medical transportation throughout the region and transports directly from accident sites to medical facilities as well as between hospitals. The Eveleth-Virginia location is North Memorial Health’s seventh air care base.

“This new base is the result of many months of planning with the community and our reception to date has been incredible. We look forward to becoming an integral part of this region by providing the fastest helicopters, the best crews, and the most reliable service in the industry,” said Pat Coyne, North Memorial Health Vice President Medical Transportation Services. “Our teams have extensive training in critical care and in the event that consultation is needed, they can access North Memorial Health’s Level 1 Trauma center during the flight.”

The highly skilled air crew working out of the Eveleth-Virginia base has thousands of hours of flight time and will consist of pilots, critical care nurses, and paramedics. The helicopter serving this community is an Agusta 109 Twin-Engine that can reach speeds up to 180 miles per hour and its Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capability allows it to fly when other aircraft may be grounded due to weather. North Memorial Health’s Air Care program has been in service since 1985 and complements its extensive ambulance operations consisting of 126 ambulances operating out of 18 bases throughout the state of Minnesota and into Wisconsin.
