2022 Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners

Our Junior Volunteers are young adults who give their time to help throughout our hospitals while still in high school. We are so grateful for their service and proud of the many ways we see them grow and develop into the future leaders of healthcare and our community.
North Memorial Health Hospital Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners
The scholarship program at North Memorial Health Hospital was originally founded with a gift from the Hospital Auxiliary to support young adult volunteers. Though the Auxiliary is no longer active today, the legacy of their generosity lives on through the accomplishment of these exceptional volunteers.

“It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that volunteering at North Memorial Health has served as a significant stepping stone in several aspects of my life. More importantly, my time at North Memorial will be one that I cherish as an aspiring physician.”
“Nurses are extremely busy, especially with COVID, so helping them lift a little weight off their shoulders is one of the greatest rewards I can ask for. Many people do not have the opportunity to serve as I did, and I am grateful to North Memorial Health for providing me with this opportunity. Not only did I grow emotionally and academically, but I was able to give back to my community and work on the front line with many healthcare professionals by assisting busy nurses amid a pandemic.”

“Even though what we volunteers do may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of the large hospital, the response of the healthcare workers says the opposite. I feel so much gratitude from the nurses and other staff which remind me why I began volunteering in the first place: to bless others. Volunteering makes a large impact on healthcare workers, and it means so much to me to be able to give back to those who work so hard to keep our society healthy.”

Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship Winners – Maple Grove Hospital
The Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship, the junior volunteer scholarship program at Maple Grove Hospital, was created in 2018 to honor the memory of our beloved gift shop manager, Gayle. While Gayle dreamed of becoming a doctor, she was unable to pay for medical school. Instead, she found her own unique way to support our hospital and the health of our community through our gift shop and was an inspiration to many throughout the hospital, both customers and team members.

Being able to work in the front lines with the nurses during the pandemic has been an honor, and the most rewarding thing I have done. I believe in living a life in service to others is the best way to live.”
